Getting closer to the end...

It's been a loooong and crazy year. But, we're about to be done. This is the last week of school, then exams and then freedom. Crazy to think about, but true. I just hope everyone had a great year and is looking forward to something for the summer...even if that something goes a little like this:

12 Noon: wake up
12:45 pm: roll out of bed
12:50 pm: make coffee/bagel/cereal/whatev
1:00 pm: eat/drink "breakfast"
1:10 pm: get ready to go to pool
1:30 pm: arrive at pool with leisure reading/floatation device/materials to "lay out"
1:40 pm: begin consuming fruity cocktail, preferably served in a hollowed pineapple with little umbrella
2:40 pm: continue drinking
3:40 pm: still drinking
4:00 pm: pack up and meet friends for a movie and dinner
8:00 pm: arrive home
until 2:00 am: do whatevs
2:00 am: go to sleep
Repeat...

Ahhhhhh.....summer.

Movies I'm Looking Forward To...

Here's some movies I'm looking forward to, some because I'm a geek, a movie fanatic or just a girl...don't judge me, it's just a blog.

-17 Again ----probably because I think Zac Efron is cute. (It's ok, it's legal. He's 21. I looked it up.)

-Wolverine---I've heard really good things and really bad things. But, I've been in love with him since I was like 10 and Hugh Jackman is really pretty.

-Star Trek ---I know, I know. I was never a fan of the show and only liked bits and pieces when we had to watch it so much in TV Crit. But I like Abrams' work and I'm interested to see what he's done with the franchise.

-Harry Potter: Half Blood Prince - Just for sheer geekdom.

-New Moon ---Don't hate.

-Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ---The first one wasn't perfect and I didn't like Megan Fox's dramatic acting at all, but I like Shia and the special effects on the bots are sweet.

-Ghosts of Girlfriends Past ---Matthew McConaughey is like buttah...just sayin'...

Ok, so that's all for now. Later.

Super Powers!

This is a blog response to James' blog about having super powers. I think I would want to have some sort of telekinesis as well but also have another complimentary power. A second mutation, if I were one of the X-Men. Telekinesis can be seen as an offensive and a defensive power, I suppose. You could attack as well as defend yourself, but I think I would want something more.
Emma Frost is a telepath (different) but also can turn to diamond...but she's a B so I wouldn't want to be her...Kitty Pryde's ability to phase through solids is cool. Although...it gets her into trouble during...emotional scenes...

Ok, now that I've forever secured my place in the geek realm, I'll go roll for my paladin...

I roll twenties...just sayin'...

Susan Boyle

http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY

This Susan Boyle woman is amazing. Watch her.

This is a humbling video because everyone in that audience and those who watch her on video or TV or wherever...everyone is thinking "This is going to be awful." Instead everyone is blown away.

It made me cry.

Seriously.

29 Days until Graduation

I'm still not able to really think about graduation in a "it's really going to happen" way. I've been defined as a student for 17 years of my 22 years of life. Unless I decide to go to grad school, which isn't in my immediate future, then I may never be a student again. It's weird. I bought my cap and gown yesterday and sent off the majority of my announcements and it still really hasn't sunk in. There's been a couple times when it's hit me out of the blue but only for brief moments because I repress it. It takes enough for me to make it week by week, let alone thinking ahead to my life and future. Anyway, you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men so...

To take a walk...

My step aunt and uncle are hosting a guy from South Africa in their home right now. Before he started college he wanted to travel to the United States and other places where he's never been while he has the time and listening to the different places he's been and where he's planning to go made me think about how much I love to travel but never get to/don't have the money/time to. But now that I'm about to graduate I'll have some time but with the economy gone to hell I won't have the money. I've never even had the opportunity to go anywhere by plane. The farthest away I've ever traveled was a band trip to New York City/Philadelphia because we were marching in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade. I absolutely loved it, though. And I want to go to tons of other places....so who's up for backpacking Europe? We start saving our money now, pool it together and go...Maybe after most other people graduate in the fall? Hmmmm.......

The Beginning of the End

Graduation is looming in the near future and is kinda terrifying. Cap and gown, invitations, etc. still need to be purchased and I has no monies. Awesome. I need to find someone that knows a guy about selling a kidney or something. I only need one, right?

Leo Awards 09

The Leo Awards was a success this year, somehow, some way. Those of us on the committee have had countless nights of no sleep and I think Winn has probably had no more than 8 hours of sleep in the last 2 weeks. Give him a hug if you see him. ;) Thank you to all who came out and those who participated. I think, overall, the quality of the submissions was higher. Now I've got to catch up on my sleep because it'll be nonstop from tomorrow to Sunday so...good night.

Cinematic Adventures

I agree with Andrew that movies have changed as far as cinematic value is concerned. The aesthetics of society have changed and with that so have movies (or vice-versa?). What was beautiful 50 years ago is now considered outdated, old-fashioned, and, really, I guess kind of prudish. I mean, look at the standards of women in the media. Not to get on a Mc Attack soap box or anything, but just look at how women looked back then. Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, etc. - all those sirens of the screen or whatever. Women do not look like that anymore. Ever. On-screen or off. Men were all decked out in their loafers and sweaters and...you get the picture. People in the real world looked like that (sorta) and so did those in the movies, if on a better and grander scale. People took their time; it was a slower paced society. One could argue so were the camera movements. Maybe that's getting too deep. But now what's the standard of beauty/cute that's being put onto the silver screen? Paris? Jessica Simpson? Hannah Montana? I'm seeing a trend of fake hair here...hmph. Anyway, I'm not saying whether it's good or bad, just throwin' it out there.

But it's interesting to note Andrew's point about the attention span of a child and quick cuts in today's movies. I rather enjoy those big blockbusters that he pointed out, such as Transformers, but I do watch them for what they are - eye candy, mostly. And I can appreciate that. But the quick cuts and fast-paced trailers and fight scenes and things get my blood pumping and my adrenaline going - which is exactly the response that they are trying to get out of an audience. It's the reason that most people go back to the theatre over and over again, especially for the big movies. But I also agree with Andrew that it wouldn't kill Hollywood to make a smart movie with a plot. Or maybe it would.

Future of the Internet

Personally, I just can't wait til we have JARVIS type systems for personal use. I know that's farther than 5 years in the future but wouldn't it be amazing to have interactive holograms in your own home? I mean, c'mon - when Tony Stark stuck his hand in the arm piece, twirled it around, crumpled up plans and threw them in the little holographic trash can, was I the only one that got those sparkly anime eyes and fell in love a little? And the speech recognition part is cool but carrying on a real-time coversation with a computer that sounds human is probably a little farther than 5 years, as well. That takes tons of AI and coding, etc. There are speech recognition programs available and Text-to-Speech programs like Expressivo but I'd like to see them advance even farther.
As far as the next 5 years goes, I guess the mobile device will be the biggest player in the advancement of the Internet. With cell phones, laptops and devices like the iPod Touch all with Internet capabilities and with people constantly wanting to be connected, look something up, get in touch with someone, etc. that's where things will continue to expand. This article talks about mobile Internet devices that will be available as soon as next year. They may even be able to play WoW.

Great.

A trip out to Ruth's...

Yes, I did go with Winn-Dixie, jbt and CK out to the Ruth house. And it was creepy. The roof and floors are all about to cave in. Every door is ripped off its hinges and every window broken. The furniture is overturned, clothing and curtains just hang, bare-thread, from walls and frames and glass and Lord knows what else litters the floor. If it's in that bad of disarray, I don't understand why someone doesn't come and bulldoze it. I assumed I'd see some animals living in there, but they must be just as spooked as we were. I didn't want to set foot in that house for fear of several things:

1. That I would fall through the floor or the ceiling would cave in on me. Not a good way to go.
2. That I would fall on broken glass/splintered wood/shattered frames and contract rabies or some other horrible disease because there's no telling what's in there.
3. That I would fall deathly ill like so many other students that have visited the house and been subsequently "ha'nted" by the ghosts that reside there.

So I went back to the car. I have horrible night vision so I couldn't see anything but I kept seeing flashes of light out of the corner of my eye. Then I heard a crackling in the backseat. At the time, I was spooked. Now that I look back on it, it was probably my Gardetto's bag in the backseat but I wasn't really thinking rationally at the time. jbt should post his pictures because they're very interesting. Several have orbs (what a ghost officianado would tell you are ghosts or "ghost energy") and one looks to have a figure in it.

Oh, the fun to be had with Winn-Dixie and jbt around.

Sad Day.

"Dreams just aren't enough."

Epic fail. Internship officially sort of fell through today. He doesn't really have enough work to have me work with him until he picks back up in March and I need to start working on stuff right now, so if anyone knows of anything, please let me know.

Plus, Swagger, yes I know those first two are my own made up titles....was the sarcasm at ridiculous boy band music not evident enough? My bad. ;) I'm sick of hearing that I'm not going to have a job after graduation. Mostly because it looks like they're all correct. People already established are losing their jobs so where do we fit in as brand new graduates that have spent all this time and money on our education with the explicit purpose of getting a better job in something that we want to do?

Awesome, guys. Let's all go to New York and start a traveling comedy troupe.

Backstreet's Back!

We just spent the better part of an hour rocking out to classic Backstreet Boys tunes such as "Girl, You Know You're My Girl" and "Baby, I'll Never Leave You." Oh, and "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)." It was epic.

Laundry Day. See you there.

So I've never tried this whole blogging thing. I think the closest I've come is almost writing a note on Facebook. Almost. I guess since I can't even seem to keep up with a paper journal/diary, I never really saw the appeal in doing the same thing but making it public, which seems asinine to me. I mean, considering that's supposed to be the whole point, right? That it's private? However, I do see the appeal when topics of interest are involved...politics, entertainment, religion, cheese. I like Red Dragon. It's got mustard seeds in it so it's got a bite, but it's not too spicy. Wow, my first blog and it begins with Dr. Horrible and ends with cheese. Nice.
